China Pumping Out the Mobile Phones

From January to May of this year, output rose to 173.91 million devices, up 66% from the same period a year earlier. According to the report, the Ministry of Information Industry has set an output target of 340 million units this year, also up from the total of almost 303.7 million last year. This accounts for more than one third of the 825 million devices made worldwide, based on IDC data.
While the MII didn't give any information on exports, last year the total exports of all handsets were at 228 million, though only about 14% of those were from domestic manufacturers--the rest being non-Chinese brands.
